2008-2009
The entire staff at Jordan School is committed to a child-centered educational environment that focuses on the student's physical, emotional and academic growth. We look forward to our partnership in developing your child's future.
Please note several important pieces of information (listed below) related to school operations. We are looking forward to an outstanding school year!
-Mr. Craig Bland, Principal
VISITORS TO SCHOOL: We welcome visitors to our school. For the protection of students and security in the building, all visitors must report to the office immediately after entering the building. Visitors must obtain permission from the school office in order to go anywhere else in the building. During the school day, only the front door is unlocked. Please do not attempt to enter the building from any other doors. Permission is granted at the discretion of the office staff, in accordance with school operations.
SCHOOL HOURS: The school office is open from 7:30 A.M. until 4:00 P.M. Students may arrive at school at 8
:00 A.M. when gymnasium supervision begins. The instructional day begins at 8:25 A.M. and students should be in the building before 8:15 A.M. Students are dismissed at 3:05 P.M. if they walk home or are picked up by car and bus riders are dismissed at 3:15 P.M.ATTENDANCE: In order to experience school success, regular school attendance is necessary. If a student is absent because of an illness or emergency, please call the office (533-7145) before 9:15 A.M. on the day of the absence. The office will attempt to contact the home if no call is received. If you do not have a contact phone number, please send in a note of explanation of absence when your child returns to school.
Students are not permitted to leave the school grounds during the day, unless a written communication from the parent is received. Separate, dated notes must be sent for each day that the child will be leaving school. Students must be signed out by an adult at the office before leaving the building. We would ask that parents and guardians please try to avoid scheduling appointments during the school day. Also, if at all possible, the school recommends that students not miss school days for vacation or similar trips.
School attendance is very important and it is taken very seriously. We work closely with the Regional Office of Education’s Truant Office in situations where students are chronically absent or tardy. We ask that parents do everything in their power to get their child to and from school in a timely manner.
FOOD SERVICE: Students are permitted to purchase breakfast and lunch. Students may also choose to bring their own lunch. Fast food delivery, bottled or canned drinks and candy are not permitted. Students are not permitted to eat at a local establishment unless accompanied by an adult. Meals are also sold on a prepaid basis to discourage students from carrying money at school.
Current prices are $2.00 per student for lunch and $.50 per child for breakfast. Applications for free or reduced meals are available at the school office.
TELEPHONE: Students are not permitted to make or receive telephone calls at school, unless authorized by the school office. Authorization will only be given in emergencies, or in extenuating circumstances. Parents should discuss arrangements with their children ahead of time concerning after school plans or activities.
PERSONAL EQUIPMENT: The school is not responsible for any lost, damaged, or stolen personal items brought to school. Students are not permitted to bring toys or playground equipment from home to use at school.. PLEASE try and monitor what your child brings to and from school in their backpacks or clothing. The students know that they are not to bring any toys or games unless they have prior permission from the school. Any unauthorized toys or games will be confiscated and parents may be notified.
LOCKERS: All student lockers are the property of the school, and are only loaned to students for use during the school day. The administration reserves the right to search student lockers at any time.
PETS: Pets from home are not to be brought to school unless prior approval has been granted by the building principal. Please call the school well in advance if you plan on bringing a pet or animal to school. We have students and staff that may have allergic reactions to various animals.
TEXTBOOKS: Students will be issued necessary textbooks. These are only loaned to the students for the year. There is no book rental fee again this year. Please speak with your children about care of their textbooks since replacement costs are high and will be billed to parents.
PARTIES: Jordan School PTO arranges and conducts classroom parties several times a year. We ask that parents no longer send treats to school for individual or group birthday celebrations. Jordan School now offers a Birthday Book option for those students and parents who wish to celebrate a child's birthday at school. Birthday Books may be purchased for $5.00 from the school librarian. A sticker will be placed on the inside of the book commemorating the child's donation of the book and the book will then be put on display for the children to read.
NEWSLETTER: A Jordan School newsletter will be distributed to students and parents at intervals throughout the school year. The newsletter will detail school news, upcoming events, and a calendar of activities.
VOLUNTEERS: Volunteers are always welcome at Jordan School. If you can provide assistance in any way, please contact the school office. We have many opportunities available!
STUDENT ACTIVITIES: Various activities are offered throughout the school year and we encourage students to participate in any activities that are of interest to them. The administration reserves the right to suspend students from participating in co-curricular activities in accordance with school and district academic and discipline policies.
MEDICATION: No medication, including aspirin, can be administered to a child at school without proper forms filled out by the physician. All medicine must be kept in the office and can be administered only during pre-approved times. Parents can come to the school and administer medication themselves. In these cases, we ask that parents check in at the main office upon their arrival to the school.
INSURANCE: School insurance is available through American Youth Insurance. The cost is $10.00 for school time insurance and $55.00 for 24-hour coverage.
TRANSPORTATION: Depending on the distance your child lives from the school, bus transportation may be available. Bus schedules are available at the school office. Students who ride buses may not ride any bus other than the one he/she is assigned to unless the change has prior approval by the school principal. These requests should be made after all other attempts to find alternate transportation have been exhausted. Parents who are dropping off/picking up students must use the South Parking Lot. Jordan School understands that the parking area can become congested and parking spaces are limited. We ask that everyone show patience and restraint when picking up students during this busy time. PLEASE DO NOT BLOCK THE ENTRANCES TO THE PARKING AREAS.
The driveway area which is located directly in front of the school building will be for buses only between the times of 7:50-9:00 a.m. and 2:25-3:45 p.m. This drive is also a one-way road with traffic moving in a south to north direction. Persons who use this area during the restricted times are subject to traffic tickets issued by the Centralia Police Department.
Drivers who are planning to come into the building for any reason or leave their car, must park in the South Parking lot. Do not leave your car unattended in the pickup/drop-off line. Due to the vehicle congestion that occurs in the afternoon, please be extremely cautious.
